Our Community
Home to 1,599 residents, according to the 2010 census, Neligh, Nebraska, serves as the county seat and is the largest community in Antelope County. Neligh is an Arbor Day Tree City, the headquarters of Educational Service Unit #8 and features many businesses and light industry.

Our Services
The City of Neligh offers Dial-A-Ride services to those of all ages, including rides to the pool and to the library. The Neligh Library offers year-round reading programs, book clubs, computers and online books. The city also offers a recycling and garbage service and has a tree disposal site.

Our Parks
The Elkhorn River flows through Riverside Park, which is home to playground equipment, swimming pool, shelters, softball/baseball fields, basketball/tennis court, horseshoes, pavilion, grand stand and campground. At Fred Penn Park, next to the Elkhorn River, is a fabulous place for fishing and camping. The Boy Scout is also on the property.

Our Festivals
Old Mill Days during the Fourth of July is full of family activities. The Neligh Young Men's Club works for months preparing for the event, which includes the grand parade along Main Street, pancake feed, demolition derby, ice cream social at the court house, stop light drag, street dance, ducky derby, scavenger hunt, fishing derby and, of course, fireworks.
The Antelope County Fair at the end of July and first week of August features all of the 4-H activities everyone loves and open class exhibits, along with a concert, demo derby, bull riding, truck and tractor pull, paint ball tournament, barbecue, tractor parade, vendors, lots of food choices and much more. The Bread 'N Jam Festival in September is all about baking and music. The weekend event features live music, inflatables, a baking contest for adults and children, 5K fun run, car show, watermelon seed spitting contest and much more. Our School
More than 350 students are enrolled at Neligh-Oakdale Public Schools, which has a long history of academic excellence and award-winning organizations. Last year alone the school qualified a student to the Scripps National Spelling Bee; six qualified for FCCLA nationals; one qualified for FBLA nationals; two qualified for state speech and a teacher was named the state secondary teacher of the year.

Dining out isn't a problem in Neligh. Our town is home to one of the finest steakhouses in the area. The Imperial II will reopen soon after a remodeling process is completed. Whether you're in the mood for pasta, pork, steak, prime rib or a place to join friends for a cocktail, the Imperial II is a Neligh tradition. Looking for a good cheeseburger and fries? Check out the White Spot Bar & Grill. Find breakfast (all day) and lunch at Mama's and Nana's, get a quick sandwich at Subway, pizza at Pizza Hut, Casey's or Godfather's Pizza at Cubby's or even a meal after a round of golf at Antelope Country Club--you have lots of options for meals in Neligh.
Our Law Enforcement
There are few communities in Nebraska that can boast of its law enforcement like Neligh can. With the City Police Department, Antelope County Sheriff's Department and Nebraska State Patrol office all in town, Neligh remains a safe family-friendly community. A new county jail is currently under construction in Neligh and will open in 2015.

Our Attractions
TK Drive-In: One of just two drive-in theaters in Nebraska, no summer season is complete without watching a double-feature in front of Neligh's big screen.
Neligh Mills State Historical Site: The museum displays explain the history of the Neligh Mill and provide information about other water-powered mills once located throughout Nebraska and the Midwest. Cowboy Trail: Beside Riverside Park, the Cowboy Trail is a pleasant escape for an evening nature walk, a family getaway for bicycling or a course for a grueling long-distance run. Antelope County Museum: The museum has an excellent collection of artifacts representing the early history of the county and an extensive document and photograph collection. Find an actual windmill in the museum. The Museum moved to a new location in the Fall of 2014. It is located on the corner of Highway 275 and 5th street. You don't want to miss it! Trail of Tears Historical Marker: In 1877, the journey to Indian Territory was plagued flooding and sickness. White Buffalo Girl, daughter of Black Elk and Moon Hawk, died on the trip and asked the people of Neligh to care for her. Her grave is in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Neligh. Shade-On Memorial: The memorial was built in tribute to the race horse, Shade-On, whose success put Neligh on the map in the early 1900s. The original barn and track were located near where the memorial stands. Pierson Wildlife Museum & Learning Center: This wild game collection exhibit including 100 full-body mounts and 50 head mounts. One of the largest private collections in the United States, including the coveted Big Five and Grand Slam, as well as animals from Africa, Europe, Australia and North America. |
